I have been writing BLU-RAY wrong for about 15 years. Dolby Vision is a thing. The TV that I love doesn't have it, so I personally don't need it. Panasonic DP-UB820 is loved by all of you. It seems like a great little beast that doesn't need a receiver for audio. You can just connect your 7.1 speakers etc to it. The video that all streaming services provide is much more compressed than what's delivered on a 4K Blu-ray. I definitely think it's worth it, epecially for titles you're going to return to in the future. It might very well be the last, widely available physical medium for films. 28. Liesthroughisteeth. While your Blu-ray player may output 4:4:4 signal for 4K24 content, the discs themselves are encoded in 4:2:0. 😊 4K discs having WCG and HDR often makes a big difference over standard blu-rays, even for 2K upscale digital content. I assume this is what you were thinking of.
The HDR is one of the biggest difference, but also the amount of data on a 4K disc is greater than a Blu-ray Disc regardless of it being upscaled for not. Besides a few weird situations with messed up DNR like Terminator 2, a large majority of 4k discs that are upscaled rather than native will still look better than the blu-ray. 6 Reasons Physical Media Beats Streaming.
