F10 525d (2010-2016) As mentioned, the N47 engine is sensitive to premature failure of its timing chain. You should be especially cautious of models produced from March 2007 to January 2009. In October 2016, BMW officially acknowledged the problem and issued a recall. Another engine that’s sensitive to a failing timing chain is the N63.
